This resident of Palo Alto graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2000, and has been a student of art from a very young age.

He is the first to tell you that he is grateful for the early influences of his father, renowned California landscape painter Jim Caldwell.

James favorite subject to paint is cars and his passion is to create a lasting memory for those who commission his work because they want to capture the essence of one of their own special vehicles.

Artist Statement for "Capturing the Spirit"

I have always loved cars, as I became more serious about painting they seemed to be an obvious subject matter choice. I continue to find that capturing the complex reflections and distortions of light and color in the intricate surfaces to be a rewarding challenge.

The Process

James is pleased to accept commissions to paint which starts by meet with the Owner or Car Handler to learn more about the car. After completing a photo shoot in a location that is meaningful for clients he works from photographs to create a lasting memory of something special.
