Artist Statement
For over thirty years I have worked in the biosciences field at Stanford University as a researcher. Test tubes and centrifuges were the center of my daily life until one fateful trip to Chine. Since I left my homeland more than forty years ago, I returned in 1996 with my family to find our roots.
The Yellow Mountains (Huang-Shan) of China have long been a source of inspiration for Chinese artists. Often shrouded in fog and clouds, the mountain peaks revealed themselves to me at just the right moment. Upon returning to the United States I realized that I had two award-winning photographs. This ultimately led me to a new career path and added another dimension to my life, aesthetic rather than scientific.
Since then, I have continued to pursue my interest in photography. My newfound passion takes me all around the world, from the glaciers of Alaska to the serene docks of Norway. Travel has become richer and more meaningful. I pay more attention to lights, shadows, colors, textures and small details. My eyes are always taking snap shots of what I see. I transform a positive image and turn it into a negative, the ultimate positive print.
The joys and rewards of being in the right place at the right time, at the right angle of light, to freeze the moment, and to capture the beauty of our surrounding are invigorating. Through the camera lens and with watchful eyes, I see the beauty of great landscapes as well as little flowers along the sidewalks.
In the Gallery
I came to meet the Founder and Managing Director of Gallery South in 2017 through the Artist’s community. This brought me to presenting a solo show for the Gallery during which time I am pleased to attend the Opening Reception Jan 24th and offer an Artist’s Talk, Feb 9th at 6:30pm – Join Us!
