Margaux Chock is a native of San Jose, California who has been drawing since she was young.

She has always loved art and creating so when Chock discovered painting in college it was no surprise to see this professional Artist continues to pursue her craft into present time.

Painting is one of Chock’s many passions, which include film photography and gardening. In addition to her beautiful statement floral pieces, she also paints cityscapes that explore the psyche of urban life and abstracts exploring the dynamic of body and soul.

Artist Statement - "Blooms"

I am interested in the intersection between beauty, color, and abstraction, which can be found in the bright colors and interesting shapes found in nature, specifically flowers. I’ve always loved flowers for their brightness and their unique shapes, creating engaging compositions with the petals, leaves and stems.

The Process

These flower paintings start with a model, whether that be a picture I’ve taken of flowers out in the wild or plants I’ve brought home and set up as a live model. From the subject I’ll draw out sketches to get an idea for the composition and I’ll often paint a small mock up to test out colors and composition. Then, I’ll draw the final drawing onto the canvas and begin painting, typically beginning with the leaves and flowers, putting the background in last. I like using saturated colors and high contrast in my flower paintings, creating colorful, popping imagery.
